Default More Clutch Help!!!

Hi!

As I've posted previously, I'm pulling my tranny to stop a noise - again.
Last time I changed the throwout bearing and the noise started coming back after a couple of days. So the consensus was that the noise must be the pilot bearing. I'm going to replace the pilot no matter what.
But, I just tore out the tranny and it appears that the throwout bearing is always touching the forks. Is this correct? Is this an adjustment issue?
Thanks!

Larry

I throwout bearing needs to be away from the pressure plate fingers. If it is touching then it spins all the time and will wear out.

The bearing should be ajusted so it is 1/8-1/4" away when not pushed in.

Hope this helps.

Do you mean the forks/fingers on the pressure plate? If so it should not touch them, but it does ride inside the clutch fork on the bellhousing.

Thanks TRW!

Well, I just tried to adjust it. If I adjust enough to get 1/8" claerance then the pedal is on the floor. Something seems amiss :(
Is there any other adjustment other than the two nuts on the clutch rod?
Thanks!

Larry

Sigforty, Yep- That's what I mean. It actually touches the fingers. I have to pull slightly on the fork to get the bearing installed.

What clutch did you put in? You might have the wrong or need an adjustable pivot ball.

Also there are two different size throwout bearings.

I had to go to an adjustable ball with my centerforce clutch.

Well, I'm not really sure about the clutch. It's brand spanking new but it was installed before I bought the car. It doesn't look like anything special. I haven't removed it yet but there's no makings on the outside.
The bearing is the 1 1/4" width and I think that's already the shorter of the two. the ball stud is only about an inch tall so I think it's the short one too!! I don't think it could be shortened much more. The fork looks good, no cracks or obviuos bends.

Any other ideas??
I'm starting to think like Bubba on this now. That rod with the two springs needs to be shorter somehow!

First, when you undo the "rod with two springs" does this give more travel to your throwout fork? (more the bearing farther from the fingers)

If undoing the rod does not give you enought throwout bearing play, then it is still in the pivot ball adjustment.

If you get more bearing play when the rod is off, you are right and need a shorter rod.

Yep, it appears that by shortening the rod a larger gap is possible. I really don't think there's much to gain with the ball stud as it's very short now.
Thanks Terry!

Anybody know if there were different rods available too?
