This might be a stupid question, but I am planning on redoing the U joint on my '75.
I ordered a sets of 1330 and 1350 spicer U joints, now that I was planning on getting the U bolts so I get all new parts when completing I notice that my half shafts are not secured with U bolts but with straps ?
As I can find they should be secure with U bolts and not straps, can somebody tell me what is wrong here or are there different kinds or rearends ?
I believe it was '71 when all the Corvette stub shafts went all caps instead of the HD using caps, light duty using U-bolts. Yours is correct with the caps. Probably simplified the production process just having one stub shaft to deal with on the assembly line inventory since there was otherwise no difference between the differentials.
Both the strap and cap type use the same u-joint. I'm not aware of a GM decision to use all caps beyond a certain date. I would have expected to see straps on your car like other later C3s.
