Default relocate ebrake

I need to relocate my ebrake on a 1980 vette. Has anyone done that? It will not fit in the center console anymore as a cup holder was more important lol. Custom fiberglass setup and we forgot about the ebrake.

Is there some other thing I can use to function as an ebrake?

You can plumb and wire in a 'line lock'.

A construction like that you can produce yourself quite easy using an ordinary industry 12 linear actuator of suitable length/strength.

I wonder whats inside that "control box"..?

Its probably more a junction box with maybe a fuse then a "control box"..

Select the pull-force of your choice under "12 v Linear Actuators" in the link: http://gimsonrobotics.com/
Then select a suitable stroke length.

Hey Dub-

I looked at this- but the solenoid will constantly pull power- IIRC it was close to an amp...not good. OR you wire it hot and when power (ignition is off ) it would engage- What happens if driving and for some reason it drops power...or add a timer/delay circuit...just not any really good ways to do it other than a line lock at the strip!!!

PLUS -legally are you not suppose to have TWO separate braking systems- Hence the term "emergency brake?"

That's what I am going with- tried and true- plus can double as anti theft if you hide the switch or use the optional remote control. I'm looking at adding a simple transponder key fob.

Yea- It's not cheap- but for a couple hundred bucks more than making your own- this one is weatherproof- AND having a car roll ONE time after you park it- usually costs more than the original purchase price!!!

They also sell this for disabled people - so it's not just a hotrod piece.

Here's the control box- don't know what's in it- but reading the instructions it seems to be a pretty well thought out piece.

A less expensive way? Look at the 65-66 C2- they have the parking brake handle under the dash- will fit the C3 with just a little modding.
Basically the same set up as your 80. IIRC just would have to add a cable-wheel and a lever to relocate under the dash.

Do show a pic of your console-cup holder- I am working on mine-or rather planning!!!

Richard

I have had 2 Corvette resto-mods in my shop that have the line-lock set ups for the parking brake. I did not put it in...but have the pleasure of mapping out all the wiring in this Corvette and correcting issues. There are NOT two braking systems...the line-lock is installed in the brake system and is NOT separate....and lock down the front wheels....and it has to do with where the 6-speed is engaged. If my memory serves me correctly...it has to be in reverse to work. I would have to look at my notes.

Looks like this will make it on my restro list.

My wife thinks I should make something custom, as in the console ( eg drink holder), but I thought the hand brake ( e brake) was in the way.

Not now.

Hey Richard a good write up on how and where you do it would be good. Your work I very good. So I can copy it and look good.
