My passenger door ajar switch doesn't work - aka, door opens and the lights don't come on.
I worked on the switch a bit, and still, it doesn't work (regularly).
So, I ordered a brand new switch - quite to my surprise, I found out that the contacts to connect the switch into the wire harness are not on the switch as ordered. Best I can tell, you have to use the "Switch terminal" - Dr. Rebuild # 1192735 - to make the electrical connection,..
In my case, I think the switch is OK, the contact/terminal is toast,...anyone else fix this before?
Those switches use the "fish hook" terminal ends to attach the wires to the switch. It won't work any other way. I don't know if Doc Rebuild has them or not. Check the website.
On a 72, there are two pin switches per door. One at the front for the interior light, and one at the rear for the door ajar dash light and factory alarm.....so which one are you talking about?
I've seen two styles of switches, one uses the "fish hook" connectors, while the other uses "spade" connectors. My 69 uses the fish hook style. Maybe all the replacement ones have the later style. Original switches have an "SX" logo on them. The door ajar switches are in the back part of the door jamb on my 69. It consists of only 2 wires which make contact when the switch plunger is "out". These little "buggers" are sometimes VERY tough to replace. If they're stuck in there, often you'll break the rivets that hold the nut plate. You'll hate yourself if that happens. :) Hope this helps.
