It's going to require major console/tunnel mods to use one. It's a hardcore racing type shifter with "inline shifting" no H pattern.
I've used them on the street before, but they aren't really made for it. To downshift you have to lift the trigger to get back into the 1-2 gate.
But going up through the gears they are pretty good. BUT, you must make sure that everything is PERFECT on them. Don't take any chances... they aren't very forgiving. I had a good friend buy a used one and it was always having trouble dropping into the 3-4 gate when upshifting. It had a weak spring. He managed to find 1st gear while heading for 3rd while on the track. This was in a 10 sec. car that pulled huge wheelstands. He found first and literally spit trans out onto the ground and the flywheel exited out the firewall.
Great drag race shifter when set up right, only for street if you are a die hard!
Yea, it's the same pattern, just "vertical". From first it goes straight back to 2nd, then as you push forward, it slides down a ramp to 3rd, then straight back to 4th. Pain in the derriere for the street. I think you will find that the best shifter by consensus is the Hurst Competion Plus. No mods, and a great shifter.
Thats sounds a bit "overkill" for street use  ..How about the Hurst shifter, does it out perform a good stock shifter ?Are the "throws" shorter or longer then the stock?
