This was boxed with a few other unknown parts that came with the '73 Coupe project.
Thanks in advance.

When I rebuilt the three cylinders that came with the project, I forgot to install this cover plate. I can't install it now without loosening the innards, can I?
Remove one bolt at a time. Install cover on that bolt and lightly tighten it. Then remove other bolt and rotate cover into place. Tighten both bolts. This shield is more for locating the hoses correctly than anything else as you said above. There is no spring pressure that would try to push valve apart. You can actually remove the outer casting without losing the valve spool but might damage seals. You will lose a small amount of PS fluid. It is easy to twist up the shield when tightening due to the lock washer. Put some grease under the bolt head and washer when tightening to help stop the twisting. Good luck with it mike.

Mike,
I was concerned about that second bolt removal. Would I be able to tighten that first bolt loose enough to get the second shield hole out of the way of it's bolt for removal, while keeping the cylinder intact. Sounds like I could.
Thanks.
I think so. Just leave the second bolt tight until you get the first back in snug. Now, whether the o-ring seal may start to leak is an unknown. Shield does not have to be there if you can get your hoses oriented correctly. mike...
