Default Skip White Performance a BBC Heads

Has anyone used these on their big block? I would like opinions on who is actually running them and you are impressed with them or not. Right now my budget precludes AFR or Brodix and looking for a bit of performance and weight savings over my iron heads.

If you are just looking for an upgrade versus the stock heads for cruising and occasional high RPM blast, these heads will probably be fine. What type of cam will you be using, flat tappet or roller? As others have stated, you get what you pay for with most performance parts and be under no illusions that these heads are AFR's. I would call and inquire if they are made in China and decide from there if you want to take the risk….

The irony is every one of us are using a Chinese made electronic device to read this!

Yes the castings Skip White uses are manufactured in China. He, however, builds the head at their facility in Tennessee, using the components of your choice, in inspected castings. His catalog heads may also use imported valves, springs, etc, but, you can upgrade those if you like. From what I have read the issues with the imported heads were with the poorly assembled units with substandard parts that shipped directly from China. If you ask Skip for ARP studs, Crane springs, etc thats what he will provide. No they will not perform as well as AFR, Brodex, etc, but, I doubt any factory head will perform as well; certainly not for the price anyway!

Depends on your compression.

I bought the E Street 290 used and had them milled to 103CC

If 110CC works for you great. Otherwise use the 60499 100CC head.

Between them all it's only about 100 dollar difference.
Skip, $945
60499, $1084
50459, $909

While you seem to enjoy bashing Americans, some people believe otherwise. You sure don't mind the freedoms this country offers you, but when it comes to appreciating it, you have no problem supporting a country where people do NOT have these freedoms. While I know unions have their issues, I will stick with supporting my fellow Americans. I guess you have the "freedom" to do otherwise. Thanks.

You do realize the E Street head prices you quoted are per head? Skips are per pair!

The Skip Whites are $945 for a pair. I also looked at the Promaxx that were a bit more but come with a 5 angle valve job. I may just save for the Brodix. My issue is I do not know what pistons and cam are in my car. I know they are .030 over forged but no idea which ones. Same with the cam. I know it is a tappet cam and if I had to guess around a 550 lift give or take.

I just realized Brodix is 45 minutes from my house. Gonna check them out in person.

I agree. I'll gladly pay more for American labor over commie crap any day, and have no problem paying more.

I just ordered a set of ARH headers, far better quality AND performance than the cheap ebay china garbage that sells at half price.

Save for the Brodix
how can there be any profit at all if someone is using "premium parts", labor etc and selling them for $950/pair.
Support the little guys before they dissapear, too otherwise there will be no choices left.

I bought a set directly from Procomp (Speedmaster78) being on a tight budget with my 454 build $1,000. per head cdn was a bit much, I bought a pair of large oval port, 305cc runner, 119cc combustion chamber delivered to my door for $1,100. assembled.
I took them apart cleaned and checked things over, I'm running ARP head bolts, Felpro head gaskets, comp guide plates, Push rods, roller rockers with poly locks. Just cam breakin time on it so far
My car is mostly a weekend cruiser so i am not forseeing any problems

The knock on the chinese stuff is porous castings so when you try and port them it can get ugly. If you are using them out of the box and the build is not agressive then I "guess" they are ok but IMO I would rather buy a set of used Dart, Brodix, AFR etc

There is no free lunch. You get what you pay for. If those are in your budget, then I'd go for them. However, they are not equal with other heads of better manufacture and aluminum quality. Then again they are half the price.

So, how many companies that manufacture performance parts are actually unionized?
Dart, World, Edelbrock, Callies, Scat, Eagle, K-1, Isky, Crower, etc.
Does anyone know?
I have no problem with bashing unions, most of 'em got it coming.
But when I have a choice between buying something made by an American versus a Chinese kid making zilch for wages while his native country continues to buy more and more American companies while enjoying very favorable trading policies, I'll open my wallet and buy American, even if it's from a unionized company.
