you dont need hp. you need to take off the sway bar, let the tire pressure out, run on an 1/8th tank, get 90/10 adjustable shocks, empty out your glove box and practice your Reaction time :)

what can get me a little higher in the hp department ?
Cheap?? Break into a Speed Shop and steel a supercharger.. The maximum it can cost you is a couple of years in jail :jester
Just kidding - couldn't resist!!
On a serious note: As mentioned before - NOS is for sure the biggest bang for the buck - however - it involves some risks too!!
Sometimes it's wise to invest some money and get the car dyno tuned. A well tuned car can produce a lot more HP than a not all that well tuned one... Another - not too expensive way to get cheap horsepower is to remove the mechanical fan and install a electric fan. You can get decent electric fans for $100 - $150.... Depending on the type of mech. fan you are using - you can get up to 10 extra HP... If you have regular 1.5 rocker arms - switch to 1.6 ratio roller rockers (if your springs can handle the additional lift). You can get good roller rockers for less then $200 and they can produce a couple more horsepower than the stock oned...
Sometimes, the cheapest horsepower can be found by removing the burden your current horsepower has to deal with. That is, GET RID OF THE WEIGHT! The more you remove, the better off you are.
Other ideas? Look for the parasitic drag. Change over to synthetic oil. This is a proven one. And don't stop with the motor. Swap out the differential fluid and tranny fluid. Also, throw in a windage tray and a crank scraper. This won't help your low end power, but up top, it can help.
Then there's the mental horsepower. Shorter gears are great.
And ask any fifteen year old with a Honda gleaming in his eye, spoilers, 8-foot suckers, spot welded out of sheet steel pirated from a junk yard, can be good for loads of mental horsepower. And K&N air filters should never be overlooked either. Those are good for what? 80 HP? At least? Yeahhhhh baby!
Also, if you can drive downhill, that can help too. :yesnod:
well.. i always wondered how a picinic table would look on the back of a C3  but as of about 20 minutes ago. i broke out the CC and ordered a (drumroll please) ROAD DEMON carb :jester this fool be goin down like white on rice.. I'll let ya know how it goes when i get it on there. i cant wait for this hehe
Take a few minutes to make yourself the better driver. Know your shift points by heart. 1/4 tank of fuel - max. Lose the spare tire, jack, and anything else that can be removed. Headlights should be down. A/C work??? If not, Yank the compressor!! Good luck.
the carb that is currently on there has a problem staying in tune. if i tune the car on a nice calm day, no more then 4 hours later does it need to be tuned again. that is not something i want to keep. Everytime i do a pull past 5 grand, it begins to buck and stutter and basically not move. i bought the demon which even tho it is a tad bigger then the current holley, i can still lean it out a little bit.
so far what i have yanked is the following,
A/C compressor, lines and evap cooler
spare tire, jack, and tire iron
the system came out (just have stereo and stock speakers)
half of the interior is out.
i guess i dropped a good 200 lbs out of the car.. any more suggestions?
