Default Help on 396 stroker build

Hey all. Looking for help on accessories for this blueprint 396 long block that I purchased. The main thing I guess would be the carb. There's a lot of options on Holley's website and it's not really clear what the best carb would be. I know it needs to be around 750cfm with vacuum secondaries but that still leaves a lot of options. The other big things would be the distributor and a serpentine kit.

Here's what I have so far. Thanks a lot for tips. This is all getting built in the next couple months!

I'd go 780 to 820 cfm double pumper, you'll get bounced all around and by some very knowledgeable folks.

DO MA NEU!

You didn't say what year your vette is but i'd think that as long as you have an hei distributor it would work as well.

Do ma neu!
Well don't know how I did that.

Lots of questions there. The carb is critical to performance as well as longevity of the engine. Too lean and you burn a hole in a piston. Too rich the rings won't seat causing oil blow by/oil usage. I would guess the Blueprint engine people have a recommendation based on the cubic inch, camshaft, etc. The 750cfm vacuum secondary carbs (like the old 3310 carb) usually work well for the generalist. Study up on reading plugs and make jet adjustments on the primary side as needed. The secondary doesn't have jets so you can put in a lighter or heavier spring based on performance. You can also ask the Tech Guys at Summit.

Have fun!

Distributor is interchangeable. Radiator can be used if it's a 3 core or more heavy duty. Starter can be reused. The biggest headache is the brackets for alt and ps . I went to DrRebuild. He had all the NOS brackets, bolts and even spacers. The brackets should be the first on your list because everything else is easy.

I would add to watch out for hood clearance with RPM manifold. You don't want to run a very low filter in air cleaner to choke performance.

the 3310 is an excellent overall easy to tune carb. you could do much worse. i prefer double pumper carbs because they are more responsive generally. they are slightly harder to get right but its not a big deal.

Id go mechanical secondaries also. I had a pretty built 396 in a Chevelle with a 750DP with mec secondaries. Worked great.

Seemed some of the responses were BBC oriented.

It's a veitnameas phonetically, in a Richard marcinco book Rouge warrior, it sounds like doom on you...that's all I'm saying, you should read the book, excellent read....the book might offensive to the wrong reader.

BBC or SBC I'd probably run an 950 ultrahp double pumper in the 820 cfm range.

DO MA NEU!
