Default Struts/Differential

My left strut was bent and it was rusted. Some calcified cocoon of sorts also rested in where bushings once existed. I bought some adjustable strust rods and took it to the shop. Shop tells me that there are no bolts holding up my leaf spring and by replacing my struts my struts would eventually bend. says hes gotta drop the differential to fix the problem whats this about the differential housing and its relation to my leaf spring? Should I look into my leaf spring while its out as in wear? im expecting a world of difference in my drive after this is repaired

Please ALWAYS tell us what year you have????

The ONLY reason that the rear differential needs to be removed ...is IF the bolts that hold the rear leaf spring are broken in the read end cover ...or the mounting tabs are broken.

Can not comment on the spring unless I know the year. You have options that could save you on possibly dropping the rear end.

This is a common problem with the Dana 44 Axel Cars. The Bolts shear off flush with the housing. Then You try to drill and remove the Bolts. Once this Fails just drill them all the way threw. Drop in some grade 8 or better Allen Head Bolts from the Top and the problem is solved. My 80 was repaired this way 30 years ago with no issues since. It might be a bit easier to do this with the rear out of the car but certainly not worth the effort.

YES...the two outer bolts can be done as gale mentioned ...but the one in the front can not.

Just to let you know that depending on what it is going to cost to replace the sporing and fix these broken bolts and drop the differential. There is an option that makes it so you do not use the factory spring 'set-up' and use the adjustable spring from Vette Brakes and Products.
