Default 72 versus 74 hood

I removed the wiper door from my 72 and have elected to go with an aftermarket long hood. I was picking up some parts at a salvage yard and there was a nice BB 74 hood. Would this hood fit a 72 with the wiper door removed. I cannot find anything on the net. Thanks.

I don`t think the tops of the fenders will line up properly with the hood

I was told on this forum that the 74 hood is the Best for Air Flow

Correct. Your aftermarket long hood takes care of that issue. Off hand, I don't believe there is a 74 big block hood. If memory serves, the same hood was used for both engines.

Hi rc,
I think both rvr and Mike are right.
There was just one stock hood after 1972, and in order to get a smooth transition from the rear edge of the hood to the fender tops at the windshield, some body work on the fenders will be needed.
If you saw a hood that said "big block" to you when you saw it, it's likely it was an aftermarket hood.
Regards,
Alan

If a 74 Vette was optioned with the 454 it would have had "454" numerals on the hood. No numerals in 1974 if optioned with L82. However base, 454, and L82 all used the same basic air induction hood.

454 emblems on the hood. Was a matching 74 car being parted out. I actually got all the parts for a 4 speed conversion for my 72 with auto. Nice hood for $350.00 but looks like I'll have to get an aftermarket as I don't want to get into additional body work. Thanks for the replies.

Rajin , get the factory 74 hood and do the bodywork to the tops of the fenders to match, I had the aftermarket hood that matched the 68-72 fender tops and it just plain didn't look right.
I ended up glassing in the hood to look like the factory 73-up Hood , and the tops of the Fenders. Twice the work but now I'm happy with the looks of it.

All Corvettes '73-'75 used the same hood irrespective of engine option.

I don't have any pics of the just Hood and fender top, but I will take some sometime Monday. Would do it sooner but My Camera took a dump , and the new one I ordered is "supposed" to be here sometime Monday according to tracking.
