I was greasing my 1980 the other day and noticed that one of the nipples has to be plugged because when I tryed to pump the grease it failed - it felt as though something was preventing the grease from being pumped in.
I noticed that their is a tool avaliable called " zerk tool " , it is used for removing and cleaning grease nipples. I have seen the tool and it looks like a 4 pointed star, but my question is how do you remove the grease nipple with this tool - any suggestions ?
Thanks
Re: Grease nipple plugged ? How does a zerk tool work (RATT7)
No idea - most of the zerks I've seen have flats on them at the base so you can put a wrench on them (and then clean them with a piece of wire or something). Do your's not have the flats? If not, seems like you could use a Crescent wrench to turn it out.

I will have to have a second look at it again - although going on memory I dont see an opprotunity to user a wrench - I will check again and see if there is a flat portion that I can get a wrench on - I believe that the nipple is plugged and it is a matter of replacing it or unplugging it

Try putting a little heat on the bearing if you can do so without burning up anything, then force new grease in to purge out the old stuff. Probably not the nipple that's plugged.
