Looks like most 225/70R15 tires are for trucks or ATV's, and BFG TA's are overpriced.
I Do NOT want the optional 255/60R15 size either.
I was about to go with some Khumo tires with 85,000 mileage rating, but I have now read that due to tread pattern & possible rubber compound changes, they do not handle well on wet pavement & get only 50% or less of the 85K rated mileage.
I really liked the old Uniroyal Tiger Paw GTS white letter tires, but they are no longer made either.
Can anyone recommend a good and inexpensive tire in this size?
The Cooper, Mastercraft and M/T are all manufactured by Cooper Tire in Findlay, OH. I have a pair of RWL Mastercraft Avenger G/Ts on the rear of my C3. The front two aged GoodYear GT II's will be replaced in 2015.
All are minimum 'S' rated tires with good wear and wet/dry performance comparable (IMO) to the Goodyear GT II's they now replace.
BFG TA Radial RWL -Tire Rack (Your local BFG dealer will have access to these same tires.)
215/70/15 - $464 (four tires) (26.9" dia)
225/70/15 - $544 (four tires) (27.4" dia)
235/60/15 - $572 (four tires) (26.1" dia)
Why do Corvette owners feel the need to buy the cheepest possible tires for their car? It is now 2015, what do you feel is a proper price for a limited production size tire?
You mention Khumo tires and an 85k mile rating, the longer a tire will last (treadwear rating), the worse it will handle. Hard rubber doesn't handle well and is the reason sports cars come with soft tires.
Unless your car is a daily driver, how long will it take you to rack up 85k miles? Once a tire is 7 years old, whether it has 1 mile or 80K miles it's time to change them.

Keep your stock rims and stock sized rubber in storage for shows and 'invest' in a set of larger diameter rims and 'modern' low profile rubber. The car will drive, handle and brake like you have just done a major suspension and brake overhaul (although may be noisier than ideal on poorly surfaced roads)

2 questions. Do you plan on driving your C3 85,000 miles? Do you drive it in the rain?
Thanks guys for your feedback on tires.
I think I may be going with the Mastercraft GT's. They are made by Cooper, they look fairly decent, and are not too expensive either.
I know you said "inexpensive"...Not normally said about a C3 item... Here's what I went with after trying Falken's... Michelin LTX M/S ...225/70 R15... They fill the wheel well, handle great in the rain (which I confirmed again Friday during a 50 mile highway trip) but are NOT inexpensive....
