Default Ignition issue

Ok.. I have read just about everything on the forum that I could find regarding ignition issues. Talk on how to replace the ignition/ coils ect.

I had a electrical short due to the wiper motor shorting out. It blew a fuse as a result. The Wiper motor was replace but now when I go to turn the key there is nothing. The Battery is brand new/ tested. I did the old school trick with the screwdriver on the starter itself and it engaged (bypassing ignition). The fuseable links seem to be all OK (No visible damage and could pull on them without seperation. 3 Locations on Starter/Horn relay and just behind the distributor).

Other than the ignition switch itself what might be the problem? Can the Wiper motor short damage the working ignition/ tumbler? How or what can I test to track this down. Pics would help along with an explanation.

Here is the kicker. This all started the day after it had been running just fine. Went to start it the next day and there was nothing. Checked the fuses and found the wiper fuse was bad. Replaced fuse and it blew again. I found that the Wiper motor connector on the motor was just hanging there so i replaced the wiper motor was along with a new fuse. Still nothing from the key to the starter.

I would hate to go throught what appears to be a major hassle to replace the ignition switch if this could possibly be something else.

Your help is much appriciated.

Get a 12v testlight and start hunting. Ground the clip on the light to a known good ground and start probing wires. Check for power at the alternator output stud, the hi blow relay, then start down toward the starter. I don't see what year your car is, GM started using a starter extension harness and the terminals in that connector have been known to burn and quit too.

God works in mysterious ways..... Out of the blue the original owner of the car contacted me today. I told him the issue and he pointed out that it could be the Clutch Neutral switch. Lord..... its been 28 yrs since my last manual transmission car and I totally forgot about this safety feature. I will go home tonight after work and fiddle with it to see if that is the elusive culprit.
