bikers use product called "blue away" and I have used it with great results. had a bolt torched out and blued my bumper, used blue away and removed virtually all traces and used it many, many times back in the day on my bikes....good luck.
I used to worry about that on my T-Bucket and C3.... Now I wear it as a badge of honor... I drive the car and that's what happens....and one less thing to worry about !!!
Since you have not installed yet, once cleaned up, might want to try Eastwoods Hi-Temp "Internal" Exhaust Coating. I will be giving it a try for my new Doug's chrome headers and side pipes.
I normally use the blue magic. For tougher jobs I use my rotary buffer with a foam pad with the polish. Harbor freight or lowes sells a thing you can put in your drill and switch out pads.
