Default 81-82 Oil Temp Gauge

Where should the oil temp gauge be reading at on the gauge. What is considered normal? Mine runs between the first notch and the 250 deg mark.

Most GM gauges are designed to have the needle straight up (vertical) when a system is operating properly. Obviously, there will be variation in either direction from that, but it's a good 'rule of thumb'. That allows you to quickly assess performance without having to actually read the dial.

Oil temps are better when higher than 180*F and lower than 250*F. But, synthetic oils can take a lot more heat (near 300*F).
