1980 trailing arms

I just recently bought a 1980 corvette with an automatic transmission. I am planning to rebuild the front and rear suspension. I am considering changing the transmission to a five speed at some point in the near future. My question is what is the difference between the automatic and four speed trailing arms? Should I change the trailing arms now while I have trailing arms out

If you're planning on putting some big tires outback you might spring for the offset trailing arms. In hindsight I would have done this instead of rebuilding what I had.
