Default 69 How to replace heater core

Hey all- anyone ever replaced the heater core in a 69 L46 no A/C? Can you replace it by removing that cover in the engine compartment or do you need to get the dashboard out? Just trying to size up the type of job this is because I have limited garage access. Thanks in advance for any comments/advice/help.

I have a 69 L46 and replaced the core. You remove the passenger side lower dash panel and if I remember correctly, remove the radio. It is explained in the 69 factory Chasis Service manual.

Thanks for responding. It looks like that cover comes off and it should be right there. Another member replied and said you need to get it from inside so I'm surprised about that. I hate taking the dashboard apart, stuff can break so easy.

Hmm, I've tried to remove heater core in my 71 vette with AC but I couldn't remove it from the inside. Or did I just give up too quickly? What about evaporator core? Can you remove that without too much hassle?

Re: heater core. Did you unfasten this stud on the firewall?

Thanks for the info. Well I do have long tube headers and those are in way as I can remember. It is a year or two from when I tried to remove it.

You said it is an A/C car. It comes out from the inside of the cabin. The headers are not a factor in the job.

You can see the stud that goes through the firewall.
