Default My Engine is definitely toast!

I get a deep and loud knocking sound from inside the engine, and then it is hard to keep running. So this weekend I pulled the intake hoping that maybe a roller lifter had failed or unlinked and turned sideways. Nope, the valve train was fine. So I dropped the oil pan next. Everything looks fine, but there is a bunch of metal in the oil pan, including some bright brass flecks. I figure a rod or crank bearing. Time to build anew engine. I think I will follow Paul Dana's lead and go big inches, 383, 396, or maybe even a 427 small block. But I want to do it with an aluminum block. I don't want to go the LS route. Premium is only $2.15 right now, so I want to get the Vette up and running quickly before we go back to $4 a gallon gas. I guess a 427 would really drink up the petrol.

Question remains as to what killed your engine?
Something caused a bearing/rod/piston to fail

I built this engine in 1994, about 20 years and 20K miles ago and a lot of autocross races and some hard driving ago. I guess a combo of age and miles.
