I'm in the process of putting my 73 back together. When you move the throttle (not hooked to carb) it seems the cable is grinding on the housing. I think I have the correct parts, cable is new, seems like the distance from the cable exit to the bolt is too short causing a
misalignment. Could it be a bad reproduction cable?? it seems everything I buy is wrong in some way-ugh

Put up a pic. That would make it even easier to figure out! We're right here in Palmdale, too. We have a shop that specializes in American Muscle, Corvettes and Lowriders. 20th E. and Ave Q, by the Airpark

My '74 has a bracket bolted to the carb. This has a square plastic bushing that holds the cable correctly and can get bent enough to cause cable drag. Also u need a double return spring - has one spring inside the other - to have enough force to return to idle. Most auto parts stores like PepBoys sell them in the bubble pack restoration parts section.
But even with those fixes my new throttle cable still makes a tight "S" turn before the square bushing - but it works now.

Use a graphite type lube on the cable, like Lock Ease which is made for key locks, if you use grease the dirt will cause a bind.I had a bind on my 85 , the lock ease helped. (now it has a carb).
