Default My rear speaker install. Copyrighted :)

i have come up with a perfect template for custom rear speaker boxes that hold 6x9'. I was able to make something that took advantage of the old stock brackets so it would fit snug. This plan took a really long time to make so you can send your donations to justin box 32............ :p: WHat you have to do is remove the rear speakers then romove the mounting support (the black piece of plastic with two metal brackets) then drill out the rivets so you have the two metal brackets off the plastic and then attach the stock brackets to the new template as shown in the second picture. If you have any questions about it gimmie a shout or post up here. I'll show the pictures of the finished product tomorrow. I'm going to put together the real thing tonight.

That is something similar to what I did but I mounted it a little different and I angled mine a bit more and made a triangle piece to mount on top for a finished look.

wow guys, please post all the pictures you can. Or you can email them to kevin[at]playtruth.com

I'm interested in both of your setups. I have a '79 and I'm lookin for a setup that will still allow me to put my T-Tops in the back

Armstrong, I tried to make mine similar to yours but i got confused about how you actually mounted them in the e-mial you sent me, so i took advantage of the stock brackets. i also have a top piece on mine, thats what the stock brackets are attached to. After they are built i'm going to cover them in red carpet or vynal. I'll take as many pictures as i can as i'm building it with the digital camera

Armstrong... I like what you did. That looks sharp.

I've got some pictures of what I did and they can be viewed at http://rogerdean.org/Corvette/speakers.htm

Good luck and be sure to post pictures of the completed project.

yeah, I really like what you did Armstrong. What year is your vette? Are all the trunks in C3's relatively the same? I'd like to fit 2 6x9's and 1 or 2 8" or 10" subs in the bacl, with room for my T-Tops still. You should make a tutorial, with dimensions and everything for your boxes armstrong. You too Justin. :)

PS, Armstrong: do you have any more interior pics of your car? I'd love to see them.

If you are going to put a sub you won't need 6x9s, it would be better to get some quality components or smaller coaxials. I've been looking for a way to put either 2 12" or 10" subs back there and still keep t=top room. Don't know if it can be done yet though. I think i will let the local stereo shop build the box for me, I hate woodworking :D

Why wouldn't I need 6x9's? (I'm not an audio expert). Right now the only speakers are the 4x6's(?) in the front dash. There is nothing in the rear.

Drumroll please............ Here is what i was working on all night long until about 12:30. I built the boxes then put red vinyl on them with glue and held them in place on the back with staplegun nails. I think it's a pretty clean install. If you want any info on what i did in more detail shoot me an e-mail or put a post up  :seeya

WOW, that looks really good. How does it sound? Do they fit in there snug, so they won't come loose while driving, or did you secure them in there?

I'd love some more pics/dimensions/anything else. I want to make boxes like those for my '79. Are you going to make any boxes for amp or subs?

First off, is it wrong that this pic .....

....gives me a :conehead ??!!??

Second.....

I SOOOOOOO MUCH want a copy of those templates and a complete write up of the bracket work.
I will pay money for those templates -- seriously -- cash money for those. You made copies of the finished product right ??
I would pay even bigger bucks if you were to make a set (withouth the vinyl).
E-mail me at BryanSeery@***.net and let me know how I can get more details --- PLEASE !!

You don't need to charge money. You are giving back to the vette community, that should be enough :D

You should write a tutorial for corvettefaq.com or whatever though. You did a great job. Same with armstrong...

Well, i don't really want to make a new set, it's alot of work, and i'd have to take the old ones out again, but what i can do is write up a description of what i did and send it to you with the templates. I'd be more than willing to do that if your interested. The only thing you really have to modify is the stock brackets. You just have to change where they bend because the have to sit lower due to a thicker wood being used. Other then that, it's pretty basic :seeya

If the cardboard cut outs are close enough, you should photo copy them and make them avail. as templates.

Looks really good, and the color is a nice match to. Since your engine rebuild do you have any new pictures of the motor now ?

Sweet job! Sure hope your better than I am at explaining. You got my basic drift and improved on the mounting by using the original brackets. Yes it is alot of work and it's pretty tight back there. I couldn't imagine someone too terribly large working back there for too long. Heck I'm only 5'3" and it was bad enough for me. Just wanted to say GREAT JOB! and for those who who would like to see more pics go to the link below and the stereo pics are at the end of the album.

Those look so awsome. You did a wicked job. Congrads...

Please send me the info when you get around to it. I love the way both of you have set up the speakers. Very nice.
