Shocks for stock 81

Called the Chevy dealer today about front shocks. Yikes ! $63.00 per shock. Any input to shocks, ie, Midas, Sears etc. :U :chevy

I love my edelbrock IAS's, a bit pricey but I think they are worth it, especially if your into spirited driving and like on and off ramps.

I recently put Monroe Sensa-Trac shocks on mine. If I remember Sears was running a rather regular sale of free installation and a decent price. I think I paid around $120ish for the set of four installed. I'm quite happy with the ride.

Normally stuff at the dealer tends to more expensive than aftermarket

Just checked my weekly Sears ad and confirmed that they are running the free installation thru 8/24, sure to go on and on and on. :D

Before I did major mods to my 81's suspension, I went with KYB gas shocks, at $30-$35 per. Vette Brakes & Products has a specially valved version for monospring rears (if your Vette is an automatic). At the same time, I put in the factory rear sway bar (7/16"). If you don't have the optional 255 tires, I also recommend putting them on the next time you need rubber. With these relatively inexpensive mods, the car handled pretty nicely, even when being flung around the track.

I second the endorsement on the Sensa-trac at Sears. I cash and carried just for fun but they are quite adequate for everyday driving in MHO.

I run KYB's and have been quite please with their performance. Summit sells them for about $120 for a set of four. All of the Vette mail order catalogs are higher on these than Summit.
