Default Holley Red Pump and Filter Question!!

Holley says to install the fuel filter BEFORE their pump. Not AFTER...

So, PO has the Red pump and a BG regulator, with filters BEFORE the pump, nothing else except for the sock filter. The pump is at the tank right above the muffler..lol.

The regulator is underhood but the plumbing makes it very hard to change anything there. Any suggestions??
Where to get a decent METAL 3/8 inline filter?
TIA, Mike

the filter is before the pump to avoid contaminents from damaging the pump, so why exactly do you want to remove that filter?

I just replaced my OBNOXIOUSLY LOUD Holley Red fuel pump with an Edelbrock Quiet Flow pump from Summitt Racing. I cannot even hear it!

Its that most systems filter just before the carb, in case of a problem downstream of the pump and regulator. Agree good idea to protect the pump too

I have had bad luck with two holley red pumps. Had the first one go bad while at a car show, had a new spare in the trunk and that one would not even work. Went with the tried and true carter 4070(been around since the 60s) and 10 years later no problems. Currently using 4070s on a 65 gto and 78 ford ranchero. Plenty of flow. Most fuel punp mfgrs only warranty them if a pre filter is used and the fuel sock does not count as a filter.

To the best of my recollection, a red pump does not require a regulator.
