Default Rough running

Hi Guys,

Can anyone help me identify this distributor in my 1972 Corvette. Is it an original or has it been replaced. I could not remove the top plate to see if it has points or transistorized. Almost looks like I need a puller on the top plate to get it apart. Engine fired up but runs really rough. Also my coil says 12 V use with external wire or ballast so as the resistance wire is long gone I have installed a ballast, but I though the coil would mention 6 Volts? Appreciate any help. Regards Greg

This is what an original TI distributor looks like.
Despite the wires and vacuum canister, I had to replace them.

The points distri looks similar regarding the housing.

If it fires right up and revs, I would be thinking carb not distributor. Check a few spark plugs and see how they're burning.
Your points might need the dwell adjusted. As they wear the dwell opens up.

Make sure your coil is wired with right polarity. Meassure it to be safe.
If it is wrong you have a much weaker spark. Also possible your coil has a problem.
They are filled with oil and mounting them this way is no perfect condition for them, the oil could have leaked out.

Thanks Guys, I am working on the Holley carb now and will check coil or try another since mine looks pretty old. Will mount upright. Will keep you posted. Cheers Greg
