Default Battery disconnect question

My 1980 has a battery draw that I have yet to find and the previous owner installed a disconnect on the neg terminal, I have recently installed a new radio and every time I disconnect the battery I lose all the settings and it goes back into demo mode. My question is can I switch the disconnect to the + side and run a hot wire with an in line fuse before the disconnect to retain the settings or is there a better way?

Proper way to disconnect the battery is on the negative side.

Why not leave the disconnect on the negative post of the battery......then run the radio-only-ground wire to the negative post itself.......that way----only the radio is receiving constant battery power.......and the rest of the car is disconnected when the cut-off switch is used.
