Re: Decarbonising Engine with Water. Please Explain Again... (Ingar, Norway)
So how exactly should I do this with the Civic? I don't like the idea of using the brake line or what ever was suggested...I'd just like to swirt water directly in. I'm afraid of water-locking using suction from a tube or similar...
Re: Decarbonising Engine with Water. Please Explain Again... (JoeZ)
i have never heard of using the ATF that way. i have heard of (and done) adding a quart to the oil prior to an oil change as the detergents will help to break down carbon and other deposits in the crankcase.
when adding water to the engine, through either the carburetor or throttle body, just add it slowly. remember, your supposed to crank the idle up to about 2500-3000. at 3000 rpm in a v-8 that's ~185 cycles (all four strokes) per minute, or roughly 3 cycles per piston per second. you would have to add a fairly large quantity of water fairly quickly to hydrolock the engine. I'M NOT SAYING IT CAN'T BE DONE. i'm just saying if you err on the side of caution, you will not have any problems. i have used a squirt bottle on the 'stream' setting when i do this. speaking of.... all this talk of shiny pistons and combustion chambers makes me want to go do this again :)
