Default custom designed spare tire carrier?

Given the cost of the spare tire carrier, I was wondering if anyone has custom made a spare tire carrier? Any pics or plans available?

I took mine off and will rely on my cell phone if something were to ever happen, may be dumb to some, but I never drive far enough to not be able to call someone to rescue me.

I removed the spare tire and carrier from my 79 to ease the replacement of my rear spring. I wouldn't trust the spare anyway since it is 36 years old. I have been contemplating re-installing it as compartment for storing something if space becomes an issue. I would be interested to see if any members have come up with a creative use of it.

Gettting a used, maybe a little rough one from a swap just cannot be expensive. Many vendors dont like to drag big parts around like that.

I wouldnt leave my house in either Corvette without a spare.

Edit: a quick look on ebay shows a complete assembly for $125 or best offer, and a tub alone for $65.

They are out there.

That's awesome. I was just starting to visualize building a cover panel to fill in the empty well and prevent it from being a pressurized wind pool at speed. However, I'll keep the mufflers exposed, and this step is way out at the end of my to do list.

I have one for $40. I bought it for the top cover only and now have two tubs.

I'm interested, if you can get a few photos feel free to send a PM. Does it go all the way back near the spring? Depth measurements would be great!

So...What's she selling again? It probably would have sold more but she's holding it a foot to high.
