Default Convertible Deck Lid Hinge Color?

NOT HAVING ANY LUCK IN ‘PAINT AND BODY’. Picture(s)?? A good friend of mine is working on a frame off on his 68 BB convertible. Prior to placing the body on to the frame he has a question about how far the body color goes down the deck lid hinge(s) and to type (color) of the primer on the lower portion of the hinge(s). Years ago he did a blue repaint and he is now wanting to it repaint back to original (yellow). Thanks you in advance for any insight you can provide. Hugh

Did you try the avenues I replied to in the PAINT and BODY section?

If you are still needing this info, I can go take a couple of the hinges in my car. It has never been restored.

FWIW: if he is concerned with judging, most of what he is talking about is covered by carpet and judged.

I have some original springs off of my 72 and the top portion is body color and the lower is black. I can take a picture if you would like. It looks like more color on the outboard side than on the hinge. There is also some yellow chalk marks.

Thanks. He was a bit careless when he did the blue repaint himself 20 years ago. He is not going for an NCRS Gold but would like correct his previous screw up(s). The car is apart and he would like to get the hard to get to details done before putting the body back on the frame. Thanks again for any help. Hugh

Then if he is not worried about judging....pull them out and clean them up by whatever method suits him and epoxy prime them and paint them before he puts them back in the car.

The way my brain works.... if he is not worried about judging....then get them painted and do not worry about it. Doing it 'kinda like factory' is a waste of time IF he wants it factory correct. If it is not going factory original...then everything else done to them.... is was it is.

DUB you are certainly more knowledgeable than me BUT my friend realizes he screwed up 20 years ago by painting his 1968 yellow 427- IU 4sp convertible BLUE. On top of that, he just wanted to make sure no yellow showed. NOW he would like to correct what he screwed up. Not to be judged, not to go after NCRS awards, but because he wants to correct as much as he can, particularly now that the body is off the car and the interior is out. It will never be original but with a little effort on his part it can be somewhat correct. A picture would be nice!! Hugh

Old Thread same question. I just bought a set of Hinges and Towers for my 69 and they look as though they left the factory bare steel and the only paint on them is the body color overspray. They are going in my blast cabinet in the AM and getting cleaned up before install. If they left the factory painted please let me know. Thanx....
