Hey guys my speedo quit the other day I had replaced the upper cable two years ago with a cheap important and immediately thought that was the culprit....I was wrong as it turns out it's good it's the lower cable this time and the nylon gear that goes into the tranny. Myou question is what nylon gear do I need to get? 1974 auto thm400 3.08 rear end the gear is pretty mangled and I really can't tell what colour it was originally or how many teeth it may have had. Is there another way I can figure this out? All my catalogs seem to sell the gears based on colour or the amount of teeth on the original any help would be most appreciated. Cheers Eric.
If you have a 2 piece cable does your car have cruise control? If so the transducer the lower cable connects to may be seized up causing the driven gear in the transmission to strip.
If the transducer is locked up your options are eliminate it and run a 1 piece cable from the transmission to the speedometer.
If you want to keep the cruise control functional option 2 is replace the transducer and lower cable.
Long cable from transmission to transducer, short cable from transducer to speedometer.
