My Tach cable is too short. I've seen the 90 degree adapter in the Zip store for $50( way over priced) and the short cable adapter in Mid Am catalog. Either of these will work for me.
Is there any place I can get one of these things locally? Would a GM dealer have one?
Stew
Stew,
How is it too short? That has me confused so far. The tach drive part of your distributor should be pointing toward the left side of the car, so the cable hooks right in there and goes right to the tach, which should be on the right side of the steering wheel (just mentioning that in case Bubba reversed them along the way somewhere).
You can remove, realign and re-install the distributor if it isn't aligned properly.
Dave,
I installed my Dist per Lars instructions and the tach drive cable outlet is now completely facing the firewall. The car runs good therefore it would be less of a hassle to get one of the fore mentioned devices. If the tach cable were say 4ins longer I wouldnt have a problem.
basically what you could do is pull dist. backout and set it up so tach drive is facing towards drivers side more and install back on number one,no big deal.unless you dont want the hassle and get a 90 adapter
I questioned Lars on this a couple of months ago and we went back and forth on this subject. If you install it the way he said the cable will be pointing the wrong way and you won't be able to hook it up. The Corvettes are set up a little different and with the dist shielding it sits differently than most other Chevy cars. Remove the dist. and reoriente it so the cable hook up is pointing the correct way. It will not harm or reduce the performance in any way.
Thanks Gordie
I pulled the Dist and spun it around to where I can hook up the Tach. It runs great and now I have a Tach to boot!
WhoooooHooooooo!!!!!
