I have a 1969 Corvette small Block. I got it from my in laws after it sat for 3 plus years and have been tinkering with it in my very limited spare time, and even more limited car knowledge. While driving it, The alternator started making a grinding clicking noise. I assume that it needs to be replaced. It seems relatively easy to replace, but considering I have no clue what I am doing, I have a couple of questions.
1. Does the sound described mean the alternator needs to be replaced, or am I missing something simple.
2. I am planning on putting an upgraded stereo in the car, along with LED headlights and taillight and may eventually put in an electric fan, should I get a more robust alternator? What Obstacles would this create for me?
3. Nothing on the car is stock, original or accurate, keeping that in mind, any recommendations on alternators?
Thanks!
