Default 1970 Corvette Stingray Needs Repairs

I have a 1970 Stingray that needs a few repairs, but I am having trouble finding a repair shop who can work on this car, find the parts needed, and securely store the car while parts are en route. The car is in the Canton, OH area. The repairs needed include a power steering/transmission leak (not sure which as fluid on garage floor looks like tranny fluid, but it is more in the area of the power steering pump), windshield wiper motor checked/replaced, and A/C vent checked as air is not circulating out one of the vents. Can anyone on this forum recommend a repair shop or independent expert who can help with these repairs? Thanks in advance.

Ohio appears to have numerous Corvette clubs. Contact one near you for a shop recommendation.

Since you said you have a leak in the area of the PS pump, you probably have a leaking PS control valve. All valves leak eventually: it's a common problem. You can try to rebuild the unit, trade in your core on a rebuilt unit, or swap out for a Borgeson box or a rack-and-pinion upgrade. Either a Borg box or a Rack are going to be superior to stock, but they will of course cost more. Information on the swap can be found with a little searching. It's been done a lot.

There are videos of wiper motor checks and rebuilds, again if you want to tackle it yourself. Willcox has a bunch of great videos that even simpletons like me can understand.

No AC circulation could be that your heater core is plugged with debris (another common problem) or your blower might be disconnected or damaged.

I'm telling you this because having a shop do the work will probably cost you a lot of money. Shop rates are not cheap, and that's assuming you can find one that has someone who knows how to work on old cars. Many technicians these days have never touched a car this old and may not be familiar with the nuances of working on one. If they are unfamiliar, they take more time, which costs you more money.

More often than not most things on these cars can be done in your garage. Each of the problems you have pointed out, I have read about in several threads here in the past. It's all been done before, which means whatever questions you have or issues you run into can be answered by knowledgeable people. If you do the work yourself you'll be saving the labor rates a shop would charge, plus you'll know exactly what has been done because you are the one who did it. Not to mention there is a certain satisfaction in being able to say "I fixed that!"

But if you are not able to do the work for whatever reason, (disability, injury or maybe just an aging back) I understand entirely. In that case do what MelWff said: contact a local Corvette club and see if they can recommend someone.

Can you do any of the work yourself? Corvette vendors carry the parts you need. Where is the car now and why is there a need to store it?

Good idea. Will check with some of the local clubs to see if they have any recommendations. Thanks...

Don't have the time, tools, or location to do the work myself. The car is in a garage at my brother's home. There is a need to store it at the repair shop since the repairs may take longer than a day and I don't want the car left outside while waiting.

Understood. Getting shop recommendations from a local club will be your best bet then. Post here in the Regional discussion forums as well: you'll be able to get comments from anyone in the region, whereas you're only getting comments from C3 people, and nationwide at that, in this thread.

The problem in your 'list' that will be the most troublesome to get repaired is the airflow problem with the A/C. The ducting system has several vacuum servos with hoses and they are connected to a vacuum distribution manifold that is on the heater control in the trans tunnel area. Very few folks work on these things (or even are willing to work on them). But, if you call some Corvette clubs (focus on the ones with the older cars; the clubs with new cars do very little of their own work and usually just take them to the dealer; you do NOT want to take your car to a GM dealer unless you want to spend what a new Corvette would cost to get it repaired ), they may have members that are familiar with the A/C area repairs and would be willing to work on it for or with you.
