I have a 1973 Stingray that I wish to get a lot more power out of.
I have been thinking about putting a 383 stroker kit in but I have a few questions. Does anybody know where to get a good kit and how much? If I have a shop put in the kit can anybody guess what the labor would be? What other bolt on mods will I have to make; can I use the stock carb, etc..?? How much hp should I expect?
or..
Could I get a considerable hp change by just putting in a nice cam? what size?
Any suggestion are welcome.
I would do a search on ebay. I actually bought a complete 383 storker motor with 450hp for 2200 of their. The only things missing were carb and intake. Their are also kits by other people. But summerduck racing builds quality engines and are always selling them on ebay. If you go for the route of a kit that means you will have to get your block machined and get additional parts put in. It will prob run 1000-1500 in labor I imagine. Either way you are gonna need to remove the engine completely. I would highly reccomend buying parts off ebay it will save you money. As far as using your existing carb it is up to you, however I would reccomend jumping up to double pumper espically if you are gonna get over 350hp. The quadrajet carbs can be hard to tune as well. Good luck
