Default 350 crank pulley cleanup

I just finished the top half of my engine and decided to move to the front and replace the water pump, belts and hoses. That bottom hose was a bear! Anyway, while I'm at it I thought I would sandblast and paint the fan and other things I can get to.

Would it be worth removing the crank pulley to clean it up and repaint it and the timing chain cover? I don't want to remove the harmonic balancer. Looks like it's 3 bolts and a center nut off the crank. Would I still need a puller to get it off? Any gotchas I need to watch for?

Thanks for the advice. I very much enjoy this forum with so many pros.

you need a puller to get the harmonic balancer off. it sounds difficult, but even the cheapo $10 china pullers work just fine (I think you can even borrow them free from autozone). worth it? that's up to you. if it were me, i'd probably just degrease and wash the front of the engine with pulleys off, mask with newspaper, and give it a quick respray of correct engine paint. if your pulleys and brackets are wire wheeled downa nd painted, and the other accessories look good, it will look just fine. the front is pretty covered up and hard to see anyway.

If you just want to paint the pulley, you can just take that off. I removed mine and painted my engine like you described.

That is what happened to my 73, sitting on concrete slab under tarp for 20 years.

It is now all back together and running again.
