Default 68 tachometer

I'm sure this question has been asked before and I've looked everywhere I can think of to find the answer. Since I didn't have any luck I am posting pictures of my tachometer face and the rear bearing the date stamp. It doesn't seem right to me because I recently bought a reprinted 68 owners manual and the tach that I have doesn't jive with the manual. To begin with, the car is a 68 convertible and has a January 3, 68 build date according to the trim tag. I bought the car completely disassembled. It's impossible to tell if it was originally a big block because the original frame is missing. The front clip still has the hanger for the windshield washer bag if that means anything. I can't figure this out and hope someone can shed some light on this. Thanks in advance.

To me it looks like you have a 6000 RPM red line tach used with the 350 HP engine.

The printing registry of the tach zones on the face isn't the greatest, but they never made a Corvette with a 6050 red line.

According to the manual;

" Three different tachometers are used in the Corvette, depending upon the engine option installed in the vehicle. The Corvette 300 HP engine is equipped with a tachometer which has a yellow zone from 5000 to 5300 RPM ( indicating valve float area) , and a fire orange zone from 5300-7000 (indicating danger zone).

The 350, 390 and 400 HP engines are equipped with a tachometer which has a yellow zone from 5300 to 5600 rpm and the red zone from 5600 to 7000 rpm.

The tachometer supplied with the 435 hp engine has a yellow zone from 6300 to 6500. Don't permit the pointer to enter the red zone beyond 6500."

So, the one that I have is none of these? Very strange indeed.

Your owners manual has a misprint. Below is a scan from my 1968 second edition owners manual that has the correct yellow and red zones for all the engines.

This is page 17 in my manual which was originally printed in 1967. Guess the second edition was a correction. Thanks for the info.

Sorry about the image being sideways.
