Default Factory alarm help...

I noticed today that my alarm is not working properly anymore. If I set the alarm, and then open a door, I can hear a flasher ticking in the back, but the horn does not sound. Is the horn dead? Fuse? How to tell?

Also, I noticed that after the alarm is tripped, and if I close the door, the flasher stops. I think I remember that the alarm will continue even after if you close the door?

Probably just a bad connection at the horn, activate the alarm and crawl under the car and tug the wires a bit, that usually works.Remember to wear earplugs, ididnt and it scared the crap out of me when i was under there and investigatet  .
And yes,the alarm will keep on honkin`till you shut it off or the battery goes dead, which ever comes first :yesnod:

Thanks.

Hmmm, why would the flasher stop once I close the door? Should it not continue until the alarm is deactivated by the key?

There is also a relay setting next to the flasher. Check it out. That's what keeps it honking after the door is closed and until it is disarmed with the key.

I have battled the C3 alarm problem for over a decade with all my vettes and have never solved it. I have come to the conclusion that they never worked properly on C3's, and if they do, they will fail you shortly. There just seems to be a myriad of problems with the switches/wires/connectors/relays, of which one or several could be faulty at any given time. GM knew it was a poor system which is why it was eventually discontinued. Personally I would just leave it off and install an aftermarket alarm system, unless you are attempting to meet an NCRS standard. Happy Honking.

Turbo-Jet- When the alarm is set and doors or hood is opened the relay will latch voltage to the horn. The horn should sound until the alarm is turned off at the fender. I have repaired many of the C3 alarm circuits. Most of the time its the horn is rusted , broken relay coil winding or defective door/hood switch. Relay coils are very expensive. I have rewound the relay coil to save a few bucks. If the flasher works only with the door open, it sound as though you have a defective latching relay. The horn could be frozen. Try tapping on the horn while you hear the flasher going off. The horn is located at the left rear quarter.
