77 with brake problem... when brake is applied, car jumps to the left immediately.... very bad, then followed by right front caliper locking up.
Both front calipers where replaced within a year of each other. Bleed brakes several times. Problem persists.
It sounds like the pads on the RIGHT side may be contaminated. You said you changed out the calipers recently. Did you replace the pads at the same time? Were the calipers leaking?
Usually a contaminated brake lining would cause undo lock-up.
There could also be a kink in the brake line on the right hand side.
Sounds like at least the right front caliper is bad. Maybe the rotors are worn thin enough to cause the calipers to hang up? I did have a problem once where the inside wall of a brake hose had de-laminated and was acting like a check valve, not allowing the brakes to release properly. I'd recommend changing all 4 anyway if they are still original.
The best thing you can do for your brake system is to make sure there is no rust in any caliper bore. All calipers are now sold with stainless steel bore inserts.Originally they were not. If a car sat for any period of time, a rust ring built up. A guy once told me you never replace a caliper without replacing all of them. You can guess what I thought of that.
But it turns out he was right. The calipers want to be free and equal. Look how big the brakes are. One hanging brake can ruin your whole day. Take all of the brakes off and make sure they are clean and moving right. Your problem sounds like rust to me. And the rust cuts through the O-ring on the piston and then the caliper leaks. Now if you can tell me how many virgins it takes to bleed the brakes, I'll write the book and invite you to live on my Carribbean island.
