Default check ps fluid help please

Hi

75 vette with ac, PS, auto trans, stock

I tried to check my power steering fluid today & the alternator support is
in the way.
Is there a way to check it without needing to remove the alternator support?

This seems too hard to do

Thanx

Allen, I have a '75 and yes it's a pain but after loosening the dipstick I can angle it out. Check to see if you have the correct original type part and belt. The wrong pump with the wrong reservoir could be a problem.

Mine's an 81 so maybe not apples and oranges but i have the same situation. It is tough to get the cap and dipstick out but i can by tilting it around. It wont pull straight out. Im not home so i cant check to give you specific details.

It's been that way since 68.
my 68 is the same way.
Get a bright light and look down
into pump with cap tilted out of the way.
If you see fluid in the neck area your fine.
Marshal.

Same on my 78. After you unscrew the cap you need to remove it sideways toward the firewall. Not straight up to get a reading. 10 years ago I got a dipstick and made a few bends to match up to the cap. Etched full hot and full cold on it. Now once the cap is removed I just rest the bend on the rim of the reservoir like the cap would and take the stick straight up. Haven't looked for any other alternative since:

I usually just fill it until it spills out and then clean up the mess, but that's me

Got to pull it out thru the backside(firewall)Not hard at all. I use a flashlight to check level then use a long funnel and pour in small increments so I don't make a mess.

I have a 1975 and could not remove the PS cap. No way was it coming out. Simply no way. I got tired of dipping clear tubing with my finger on the end to check the level. So one Saturday I kept testing belts in 1/2" increments til I found one that worked (i.e. allowed me to finagle the cap off yet didn't have the pump too far out rubbing against the frame.) I still have the NAPA list for the belt lengths somewhere if you want them. Just tell the store you might be back a couple times exchanging belts that day.
