okay - so NOW what?
everything in my AC system has been replaced except the condensor.
took it to the shop to get it flushed , pull a vacuum and fill.
So thats what they do.
Everyhting seems to be operating correctly, AC compreesor is cycling...
pressure readings are correct...
however there is NO cold air coming out of the vents.
Any one have any ideas , so I can get my car back and actually drive it for once in the past 2 months?
heres my previous post on the topic. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=361133
thanks

I can flip the temp lever and get blazing heat out of the vents and I can turn it to cold and the temp out of the vents gets much cooler...
but its not AC cool.....its just warm air.
its at the shop......I only know what hes told me at this point..
he said everyhting seems to be working, its just not blowing cold out of the vents
the AC is working
It certainly isnt ice cold coming out of the vents, but it is cool air.
Im not sure these cars ever had "ice-cold" air.
The mechanic put a variably orifice filter in it to make it run a little cooler...he also adjusted the heater door ( said it wasnt closing all the way )
I may eventually take it to an AC Specialist , but not right now.
I need some driving time.
I had the lower control arm bushings and lower ball joints replaced as well......front end is definitely tighter now

I agree. Wish I could help but I don't know about ACs.
Damn, what luck. Don't sell it, just keep at it. You'll figure it out sooner
or later. 81s are a nice year model.
:mad  :smash: :seeya

Im really trying to get this damn thing on the road before Labor Day so I can go to
Sharkfest at NCM.....
As I drove the car to work today I noticed that the air works when it wants to....
sometimes yes - sometimes no....
when I first turned it on this morning , the AC compressor was cycling on and off every 15 seconds......then I started driving and tried it again...compressor kicks in .....no AC...
then I try it again later........compressor kicks in......I know have AC.....
Ill update when I know something else
Thanks for the replies

Go find a REAL A/C shop. It may not be cheap, but it'll get fixed right the first time. Although I spent close to a thousand bucks, I feel it was worth every penny not to be fussing with the AC. And the shop discovered the fan clutch was NFG, too. So now I have COLD air and an engine that doesn't overheat (well not too much). Worth the investment in my opinion.
I have since learned that the pressure readings are the same on BOTH high and low lines....somewhere around 120....and my blower stopped working while I was standing there and they were checking wiring.......
this sucks
AC is working consistently now.....
however the AC Compressor is cyling alot....sometimes every 2 seconds ....
while driving it makes you feel like someone else is constantly tapping the gas and then releasing...its cyling to much - correct?
I thought maybe it was the pressure switch , so I put a new one on...
The mechanic said that the new 134a is a different pressure than the old r-012 so it will cause the compressor to cycle differently.
I changed the switch but it had no affect. :(
any ideas why it is cycling so much????
thanks
Kevin
I spent close to a thousand bucks, but my AC is flawless and amazingly cold, even in the 100 degree heat we're having right now.If only I could get the engine to run a few degrees cooler... :nonod:
