Default shipping costs

OK, I am trying to seal a deal "Shamby" and get a price to send my flares to him. length of box is 46", width is 25", height is 18" and the weight is 15 lbs. UPS wants $165., Consolidated Freight wants $273.97- C'MON. What carriers do you use and how much . Seems like it should be 20 - 40 $$ should be more realistic. Need help!

Well, if ya have a Grayhound bus station near by, I'd go that route.

I "was" gonna ship a transmission/converter from Harrisburg PA to Oakland CA. Grayhound required that I put in in a crate. I guessed the weight to be about 100 pounds. Total would of been about $80.

Granted, they do have the option to remove the package if they have a full bus and not enough room for the crate, but it would of gone on the next available run. Told me it would take roughly 4 days, with a possible 2 more days depending on how heavy their runs are.

Now this type of shipping is going from terminal to terminal, so wherever you'd be sending it to also has to have access to a Grayhound terminal.

Have you tried the Post Office? If it fits under their size guidelines I'll bet they're cheaper than $165.00.

Did you try Mail Boxes Etc. or some other place like that? You could call with your dimensions and get a price. The size of the box is right on the edge of Fedex/UPS oversize II category. Maximum of 130" length and girth combined. Depending on how I put your measurements into our Fedex computer it comes out too big one way and works the other. I don't know where you are shipping to but a box your size from NJ to Calif. would be around $31.00. We get a good discount from Fedex and Mail Boxes adds $$ too, but it shouldn't be $165.00. Good Luck.

Not a clue.
All of our overseas shipments are handled by freight forwarding companies, billed directly to our customers.
If you can wait until next August for delivery, I could have my aupair - she is from Karlskrona, bring them back on the plane for you. She could even drop them off on her way home from the airport. She should pass right by you. :jester

IMO shipping costs are WAY out of line in this country...for us without commercial accounts...if WE pay 100 bux, a regular account would pay less than 30 bux.....truth of the matter....
another thing is that 'girth' bullsh it measure...great excuse to jack up rates...take the tape and wrap it around the unit, then add the length...
total less than 130" your' fine...over that, and UPS Fed/ex charge like hell or won't take it at all....
forgetabout the 'shippers' like Mailbox etc....they are 3X the right price...
gotta go to the UPS terminal yourself....
another thing, if someone is NOT home to sign for packages sometimes...
they will kill you on picking it up...special trips etc....

You Swedes sure know how to grow them. Tall, thin, blond. Now if it wasn't for my wife and kids . . . oh yeah, thats why we have an aupair in the first place. She takes care of the kids, keeps the wife happy, and leaves my time to drive my Vette.

Mailboxes Etc are the BIGGEST rip-off artists I've ever run across. I started to use them to ship some parts until I realized they mark-up the UPS charge almost 50%. If you can pack it yourself, take it to a Staples or Office Depot. They charge you the same price as if you took it to the UPS counter. :mad :mad

Thanks for the help , guys, decided w/ Scott to use Greyhound as it was by far cheaper. 29.10 is much better than 165. or 200+.
