Okay, so I purchased a 1977 corvette, I got it starting and it was ready to hit the street, but then the alarm system goes off and I have no idea how to stop it, and for that reason I believe that the car won't turn on for this reason! The car only came with one key which was the one to turn on the car and not for the doors. Would making a key for the doors help me turn off the alarm and get it going again? I need some help! Please!
you need the door key, did you contact the person you purchased the car from?
He didn't seem to have the key to the doors, which I had asked for when I first purchased it, I assumed it was going to be that. I took the door lock to a locksmith and I'm just waiting for the key to be made now, and hopefully it is that! thanks for the reply though! much appreciated
The 77 factory alarm system is not tied to the start circuit. Have you asked the seller whether an aftermarket alarm system might have been installed?
I have not, if that is so, how am I able to stop it? because it wont let me turn on the car either way, would i just have to take apart the alarm system?
To complicate matters, 77 was a transition year for the alarm system. Early 77's had a keyed switch on the left front fender. Late 77's had integrated the alarm switch into the driver's side door lock. Both require the door lock key. Also, the lock allowing access to the spare tire uses the door key. If you're going to have a key made, this lock is FAR more accessible than the door lock cylinder - prop up the tub and remove the two bolts the bracket and downrod assembly.
