That 230 estimate is high....
A good set of modern heads and a roller cam. headers.... done.
Mine made close to 300 at the wheels with that combo.

The factory 1980 L-82 was GM rated @230 net HP.

Factory 882 heads or an aftermarket head? Youll be lucky to get 300hp out of those 882s, and thats if they arent cracked already. By the time you spend money setting up your factory iron heads you could have some nice aftermarket ones.

The L82 has about 9.8:1 compression. Pistons are roughly .025 in the cylinder. So you need a .019 head gasket and 65cc chambers in your heads to get 10.5:1 compression.

Do a search for L82 builds and see what other have done.
Factory cam and crank are good. But if you want significant power you need Heads, and a roller cam.

You plan to put it in a truck, so do you want torque. or peak hp? Id guess torque. Getting 400 hp out of a 350 will be like a 327 ina corvette, have to wind it up. no torque.

You have lots of hood clearance for any type of intake you want... but a performer rpm is probably your best bet.

Auto or 4 speed? What gears in the truck?

Easy to make 400 hpbut easy to also build something that doesnt work for your applocation at all....

No dyno numbers yet...just had the oil leak from the back of the pan fixed by the builder and waiting now on the ARH LTH to put on in place of the Shorty's and then rejetting of the carb and new distributor/recurve. Builder is estimating when setup correctly (he does this all day long on old and new cars) on his Mustang Dyno, NOT a dyno jet, my 355 should do somewhere between 335-350 Mustang Dyno RWHP (12% lower than dyno jet-all things being equal) which would be about 150 HP over the stock L-82...

Builder just put on ARH LTH headers on a 2010 ZR1 along with no cat Billy Boat bimodal exhaust, and K&N cold air intake along with his custom ECU tune after the parts install...no other changes to the stock ZR1....625 Mustang Dyno RWHP....over 700 net HP!!! Holy crap.

Well I got the moter from I guy I was cutting grass for wen the oil field fell an on day I finally asked him to take me for a ride so wen we was riding he told me he swapped it with anoter 350 I asked him wat he was gunna do with the stock engine he said he lost interest in it him an his dad started building the moter but his father passed away wen they started to build it an he told me that we can do sum trading for work for moter so he gave me the moter in exchange for a few free yard cuts an to pressure was his house an sidewalks I haven't got a body for it yet still trying to decide wat we are gunna put it in at first I wanted to put it in a square body s 10 but my dad found a 95 single cab ford flare side so we are gunna finish that build first then work on the 350 but it will most likely be a stepside chevy with a 5 speed
