Good suggestions above on the points/condensor. My buddies 68 did something very similar with almost no miles on the points but the car sat outside covered for while ... the points got crusty. If memory serves the condensor would be the culprit if occurring under load or higher rpm correct?

Never heard back from the OP on what ignition he has... he indicated a NEW distributor in the post but I cant assume HEI... so points could very well be an issue if its a rebuilt.

Want to know what he sees down the carb when idling as well... if the boosters are dripping.

apologies for the lack of updates.. Problem with being a chef.. Last minute calloffs, last second banquet... Drama.

So how I am in the initial stages of diagnosis. Thought (too much) about that power valve. All SEEMS ok.. At idle, I dont see excess fuel spray from the top of the carb.

Oh and its a hei dist. Shouldve mentioned that long ago..

I do have sight glass for the float level. Set them to where the fuel level is barely visible through the site.

EDIT
So after using my 'laser' thermometer, All cyllinders EXCEPT #1 are around 750. #1 is 100.... Tracking it down!

Cant for the life of me get my camera to focus on this plug, but it looks horrible......
Carbon caked all around the thing... Fuel saturated.
Going to get a new plug....

Real problem is why/how did this happen in the first place?

My 'guess' is that carb tuning needs to happen TODAY...
But all that carbon?
Apologies for the 'newb' questions.. But everyone was a rookie once

Sounds like you found it....get a new plug and check it with timing light for pulses. As to why its fouled... see what happens when you run for a while first.

to put a proper close on this thread, it was the #1 plug... Completly caked with carbon after about 150 miles......

Car sat forever before I found her.. My best guess after all my research is that ill have carbon deposits that will be 'flushed' through the engine, especially after all the upgrades I did.. Time will tell if its a bigger problem or not.

Right now, its a monster once again!! Ill enjoy every second.
Thanks again boys
