My 1977 is an L-48 4 speed. The previous owner put a full dual exhaust system on it but when he got to the mufflers he went with those enormous ones with the long turned down tips. They make the car quiet and I don't like the look of them from the side or the back. They are HUGE. I would like to remove them and install smaller versions that are louder. Any suggestions?

Yeah, install smaller mufflers that are louder....................
I was looking for a "little" more info than that!
Is there a bolt on version of the large "stock" mufflers that is smaller and has a performance type sound?
My new 77 is in the same place as yours with mufflers .Previous owner put a whole new stainless piped ,stock set up with gramma mufflers. The Warden (wife) says she wants more noise when she's driving it as well.So without tearing into a whole exhaust ,I'm thinking Flowmaster Super 44.Or like its been said "Glass Pack it"
Yea, my car has a complete dual exhaust system on it but the mufflers the original owner used are round and HUGE. They are noticeable from the side view, they look huge from behind and the tail pipes on them must be close to 10" long. It just ruins the back of the car.
My Spintech's are installed on their side vs flat and you cannot see them at all. All you can see are the chrome tips sticking out the back. Again, I am very satisfied with Spintech's product. I also didnt want to be just another car with flowmasters.
These are Magnaflows. Completely hidden from the side.
That's exactly what I am looking for. Do you have the model number of those mufflers? I want to see if they are a direct bolt on when I remove the large round ones.

Question.....sorry to jack the thread but what size tires are thoes???? Are they mickey thomson? Any rubbing?
Rear tires are 275/60/15. I had to relocate the ebrake cable bracket on the trailing arm. Otherwise, no problems.
The mufflers are 2.5 inch, with offset inlet, center outlet. The tips are 3 inch welded over the outlets. I think the mufflers are 14 inches long. Don't have the paperwork handy.

For the 1975-1979, we sell it as part # 16710, which is a cat-back.
For earlier C3s, we have a few more exhaust system options, but if we don't list them for the '75-'79, then they aren't a direct-fit for those years. Let me know if you have any questions about that.

What I want to do is just replace the mufflers. The entire dual exhaust is new. I want to take off the horrible gigantic round mufflers and replace them with something low profile with a nice throaty sound. The mufflers themselves in your diagram look perfect. I just need to measure the OD of the pipes I have once I get the mufflers off. Do you sell only the mufflers and if so.. is there a way I can get the dimensions of them so that I can make sure they will bolt on with no modifications?
