So ive been thinking about putting a cam in my car. Im really not sure what to look for I dont want to go crazy I just wont good sound and mild hp its not gonna be a race car. Im not going to go it till this winter but im trying to preplan it. Im also going to port the intake this winter. Not sure what else I should do yet I just want to do a mild build on it. So if anyones got some idea id be happy to hear thank you

If its still subject to smog testing you'll have to go with less than 220 degrees duration and keep the stock PROM in it.
I put a Voodoo cam in mine, but I also did heads and a renegade and a full rebuild at the same time. I ran the stock computer with the rebuilt engine with no issues for a few months. I ended up swapping out to an aftermarket ECM when my ECM tanked (unrelated to the rebuild) and my "new" injectors crapped out. The part number on the Voodoo I used was
10120701. 256/262 advertised, 213/219 @ .050. Others in the past have used the Crane 2030 and Crane 2040 cams without swapping out the ECM. Porting the intake is a good idea. While you are at it remove the EGR chamber as well, it is a huge restriction inside the plenum.
Idle vacuum going to the MAP sensor is where our cars run into problems. The two numbers you need to watch is duration. Needs to be under .220 @0.50 and lobe separation. Should be above 112
You can cheat a little with Rhodes lifters or go with a roller cam but for a good all around cam. Go with the recommended cam choices. From here, edelbrock or comp cams has a listing for our cars that are bolt ins.

i checked out the lunati voodoo and cranes and comps cams. i think im going to go with the voodoo cam unless i find another i do still have awhile till i get to do this. i didnt know about the EGR delete i will do that when i port the intake is there anything else i should look at doing thats not crazy expensive?

Your best performance gain would come from a set of 3.73 gears and with the 30% overdrive of the TH700R4 you'd still end up with a 2.62 final drive ratio. My '82 has a set of 3.54's behind it's TH700R4 but my '71 has a set of 3.70's behind it's TH700R4. Over the years I have found a TH700R4 with 3.73's is an unbeatable combination. Fantastic acceleration along with a very decent cruising rpm.
