Having a problem with my 80 Vette. Evey time I slide the lever to AC or defrost the 25 amp fuse blows. I was looking at the wiring and I see a green and black wire going to the compressor assembly and out of the same cluster there is a blue wire and a black wire with a connector but not connected to anything. I can't remember if it ever was connected or is just one of those wires that hang out in limbo. Could this be the issue? I don't see anywhere to connect it.

What else could cause the fuse to blow each time?
Since the DEFROST position also engages the A/C compressor's clutch I would suspect the problem is in the compressor's clutch coil. Disconnect the compressor's clutch coil and try running it in the DEFROST position. If the fuse doesn't blow then the compressor's clutch coil is most likely shorted or the wire going to it is shorted.
If the fuse went on just the a/c I would say dead short in compresso, same for blower, but since it happens for either it leads me to believe it is something common to both, don't know about 80 wiring but diagram would be a good start.
Few owners know their A/C compressor turns on in the DEFROST position. It does that to dehumidify the air as the warmer air is directed at the inside of the windshield.

My car does not have a/c but I learned something new today. Thank you.
