Default starter switch????

hi all. drove to the store today , went to start the car and nada. no click, no nuthin. ignition came on, battery was up, all acc working. just wouldnt turn over. the lights for the seat belt and e brake went a little dim , but thats all. turned the ingnition switch on and crawled under and shorted the solenoid, fired right up. what do you guys think?? bad switch?? if so where the heck is that little dude??anyway, dont really want to bubba the thing up with a remote, so any input would be GREATLY appreciated. oh its a 77 with an auto, air, etc. pretty much stock except for intake and duals. been a rock solid little car till this. thanks fellas, regards, fng

Default Re: starter switch???? (FNG)

This may not help, but when the solenoid just clicks several times before engaging the starter, the large copper bolt that the power hooks to is worn thru on the inside. If you remove solenoid you can remove two long srewws that hold cap on, pull partially out (some wires still hooked in back), look in back side of cap and see if power bolt is half gone. If it is loosen nut but do not completely remove it from bolt, and you should be able to push it back into cap it has the square shoulders, turn it half around and pull back in tighten nut. You have rebuilt solenoid that will last as long as the other side did. :D
