Default Missing clutch return spring

1968 NOM BB which I believe was originally an auto, and now is a 4 speed. Clutch seems to be working well but takes more effort to hold down than my 66 and 05. Upon investigation I found the return spring was missing. If I install one won't it increase the effort?

The anti-rattle spring is pretty lightweight. I'm not sure you'd notice any difference in pedal effort. Do you know what kind of clutch it is?

I agree with rcread and believe those are anti-rattle springs. You could probably pick up a spring at Ace Hardware that would work in a pinch if needed. Wilcox should be able to sell you one if you are not in a hurry. It is going to be harder to press the clutch in your BB than in your modern hydraulic clutch. Especially since it is a NOM BB. Someone has probably put a heavier clutch in it when they did the swap.
