Default Yes another side pipe question

I just purchased a set of the Maximizer header/side pipes for my 78. I've read through several threads and discovered some have had issues with these fitting....fingers crossed on that one!

Mine arrived with a small ding in the left side pipe, since I plan to ceramic coat them velvet black I'll use some lab metal or JB Weld to fill the ding. I don't want to wait yet another week or two to return and file a UPS damage claim for such a small defect. However I am a bit worried if I ceramic coat them only to discover I have fitment issues! Did I say fingers crossed!!

My question is: has anyone purchased a set of the Patriot heat shields? I'm thinking they may be to small in diameter for the maximize side pipes. I was hoping someone could chime in if they've bought these or know someone who has..

Thanks,
Bill

I was looking at those as well. They are for 2.5 maybe 3 inch pipes. The maximizers are 4 inches.. so you'll have to spend a bit extra and get a set from cobra parts.com

install the header side pipes and if everything is ok then have them coated.other wise you will have to have them re worked by a pro, to fit.thats what I did with my dougs headers, and I love them.

Yeah I decided to pass on the Patriot heat shields for the same reason, we pulled the old original exhaust manifolds, pipes and mufflers yesterday. I now have a much bigger problem than worrying over heat shields.

One of the downsides to buying an "unmolested" original old car is the fact that original in some cases means rusty bolts never touched since it left the assembly line. I had 3 manifold bolts twist off in the heads. Luckily my son "knows a guy" that he uses in his powder coating business when he breaks off bolts disassembling old parts to powder coat. He'll be coming by today to assess the situation and hopefully extract the bolts. Two of the three are flush with the head and for the life of me I can't envision how he cas access these to drill them out. I could end up having to pull the top half of the engine and if I do that, I may as well have the heads reworked while they're off. Damn these old cars! It's a love/hate relationship and I'm currently hating it!

Removing broken bolts is not that bad .I taken the broke of psrt of the bolt drilled a small hole down through the center as a guide to drill into the bolt so you can get an easy out into broken bolt .most likely will need a 90 degree drill .remember like my wife says at my old age Slow and easy will get it done
Good luck

Let me know if you want heat shields.. I just purchased brand new ones from cobraparts and now may not even have a use for them.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I have bigger worries at the moment. Spent several hours trying to get the broken manifold bolts out to no avail. I'm so p***ed off at the moment, I may just spend another grand on aluminum heads and intake and be done with it! Figured if I go through the trouble of pulling the heads I'd end up spending close to half that on a reworking the heads anyway.....so why not go the extra mile and buy the whole enchilada? Not what I started out to do, but some new aluminum heads will improve performance with the header setup. To be continued............
