I have a rebuilt unit. Just looking for the right location to hook up the cable from the heater box to the control..not sure if it goes on the side or bottom. I have the assembly book but everything is so blurry you can't tell exactly where it goes.

What cable are you talking about? Do you mean electric wires? My '71 is all apart, but the only "cables" I remember going anywhere near the heater controls were for the floor vent levers. Isn't the heater controlled by vacuum hoses?

Pictures would help us know exactly what you're talking about...

I got it..cable has a plastic bracket that bolts to the side of the unit. The metal cable then attaches to the under side, on the right, for the heater control door. The door is opened manually the vacuum is to switch it to defrost, floor etc.

Yeah, I'm sorry I spoke without checking my parts and pics. Here's a photo of the connection you were looking for. The flat arm that's connected to the temperature control wheel has three pins that come out of the forward end of the arm. The outer horizontal pin goes thru the outer frame of the control mounting assembly, the inner horizontal pin is connected to another arm/lever that goes to what appears to be a vacuum control valve. The vertical pin on the bottom of the temperature control arm is where your cable should attach.

I guess my memory isn't what it used to be. Good thing I took (and am still taking) lots of photos...
